Reception: September 11, from 6 - 9PM.
Target Gallery
is pleased to open its fall season with Layers, a multi-media exhibition
representing artists from across the United States. All works explore
the literal or figurative use of "layering" in contemporary
art. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, August 13 through Sunday,
September 28, 2003. A reception for the artists will be held on
Thursday, September 11, from 6-9 PM. The juror for Layers, Kathleen
Moran, will present a lecture beginning at 7 PM on that evening.
The exhibition and reception are open to the public and free of
charge.
Juror Kathleen
Moran is the Director of Exhibitions at Glenview Mansion Art Gallery
in Rockville, Maryland and is on the boards of numerous public art
commissions. Of the 25 artists in the exhibition, a good percentage
of them are from the Washington, D.C. area. A wide range of media
is represented, including encaustic painting by Torpedo Factory
artist Beverly Ryan, enamel sculpture by Silver Spring artist Abby
Schindler Goldblatt, and a striking fiber piece by Hillary Steele
of Bethesda. In her juror's statement, Moran states, "I was
seeking an understanding of how the works explored the notion of
layering in art and was inspired to create an exhibit that presents
as many different artists, media, and ideas as I could fit within
the restriction of the gallery space."
