Reclaimed Exhibition • April 1 - April 26, 2009
Juror's StatementSteven & Linda Krensky

We want to thank Mary Cook of the Target Gallery for giving us the opportunity to curate and jury the Reclaimed exhibit. We enjoyed viewing the more than 450 pieces of artwork that were submitted and selecting the pieces to be shown in the exhibition. The artwork was presented to us without the names of the artists and except for a very few pieces, we did not know the artists of the artwork submitted.

Reclaimed is an exhibition that focuses on everyday common objects that have been reclaimed, recycled, reinterpreted and transformed into art. We kept this objective of the exhibit clearly in mind as we viewed digital images of each of the submitted pieces. We chose no more than one piece by any artist when we could ascertain that fact. Some of the pieces we selected for the exhibition demonstrated, in our view, originality, cleverness, uniqueness, appeal, and/or humor. In addition, we selected several pieces that depicted “something” new, novel, different, or unexpected. Lastly, several pieces with interesting conceptual elements were selected.

We also want to thank all of the artists who submitted artwork for this exhibit and we congratulate the artists whose artwork was selected.

Juror's Bio: We have been avid collectors of artwork for over two decades with many of the pieces in our collection created by local and regional artists. As an extension of our love for art, we opened Light Street Gallery in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2004. Linda is the Gallery Director while Steven is the one-man research and development team as he relentlessly endeavors to view every new exhibit and show within the Greater Washington, D.C. area. Neither of us has a formal education in art; rather our knowledge of art is based on many years of viewing and collecting artwork, meeting and supporting artists, and our previous experience in curating and jurying art exhibits.
