5x5x(5) will be an exhibition that examines work on a very intimate scale. This opportunity will be open to all artists nationally and internationally working in any media with the strict stipulation that the work must fit within the parameters of five inches in any direction.

Juror: Elaine Levin
Freelance contemporary curator, writer, lecturer and critic, Elaine Levin is from Northridge, California. She is a widely published writer and speaker on contemporary ceramics and crafts. She has written over 85 articles in such publications as Ceramics Monthly, Artweek, Ceramic Review (London), Revista Ceramica (Madrid), Sculpture, and Kerameiki Techni (Athens, Greece). She has written over 17 catalog essays, curated 10 exhibitions, juried 7 exhibits, 14 symposia, over 85 lectures at such places as the Smithsonian Institution, Alfred University, National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts, and 2 documentaries on ceramics.

Directions for Entry:
Image entry will be PC compatible JPEG digital files and by 35mm slides only. Review will be by digital image only. We strongly suggest digital submission. All 35mm slides will be scanned before jury and require an additional $3 fee per slide. We regret that we cannot review images via email. Images of up to three works may be submitted. Only one detail image per each work may be included. CDs must contain the artist’s name on both the actual CD and the case. JPEGs should be no larger than 300 dpi at approximately 4 by 6 inches. All digital files must be in JPEG format and must include the artist’s name and title of the submission (smithpainting5.jpg). Please do not use quotations or spaces in file names. Slides must be labeled with the artist’s name, title, media, and dimensions. Mark the lower left-hand corner of the front with a red dot

BookEnds: the book as art

BookEnds an exhibition that focuses on the book as art and will be open to all artists nationally and internationally. The exhibition will be split between two venues, Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Target Gallery and Pyramid Atlantic: A Center for Print, Paper and Book Arts. The juror for this exhibition is Helen Frederick, Founder and former director of Pyramid Atlantic. Frederick will choose the work that will be on display at both galleries.

Juror: Helen Frederick
Helen C. Frederick is recognized as an artist using printmaking, artist books, electronic media and installation works as a basis for commentary. She is the founder of Pyramid Atlantic, a Center for Contemporary Collaborative Projects in Printmaking, Hand Paper Making, Digital Media and the Art of the Book. Frederick’s work is included in the Whitney Museum of Art (NYC), National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress and Smithsonian American Art Museum (DC) and other collections around the world. Her activity as a lecturer, juror and curator nationally and internationally, have her currently engaged in the following exhibitions; International Print Exhibition, USA and Japan, 2008 featuring the Tamarind Institute, SOLO Impressions, Segura Publishing, Paulson Press and Pyramid Atlantic. She has been featured in many publications to include the Complete Printmaker (revised 1989), The Best of Printmaking (1997), Dieter Roth in America (2004) Germany, and Papermaking for Printmakers (2005) UK.
