Open Exhibition 2014 - Call for Proposals
Deadline for Entry: Monday, March 31, 2014
Exhibition Dates: July 19 - August 31, 2014
Reception: Thursday, August 14, 2014

This is an Open Call for proposals for an exhibition in the summer of 2014. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. Our jurors this year are Mark Cameron Boyd, Schwanda Rountree and Cory Oberndorfer.

Jurors: Mark Cameron Boyd has taught art theory, drawing, painting, 2-D design, film and photography for the University of Maryland, Monterey Museum of Art, Montgomery College, and The Art League in Alexandria. Since 2004, Boyd has taught painting, drawing, and his self-designed art theory courses, Theory Now and Postconceptualism for the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Boyd’s artwork explores “text as a language for painting” by literally using his original writings as the subject of his works. His 2006 solo exhibition, Logocentric Playground, shown at American University Museum at Katzen Arts Center, expanded his practice to participatory art, as visitors were invited to write directly upon his blackboard panel installation. Boyd has shown his work at the Center for the Arts Gallery at Towson University, University of Maryland’s Stamp Gallery, Catholic University of America, the Hamiltonian Gallery, and others in Washington, D.C. In 2007, Boyd was a Janet and Walter Sondheim Prize Semi-Finalist and exhibited at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He is currently teaching his new contemporary theory course, Art as Social Practice, for the Corcoran and preparing his next curatorial project, Readymade at 100, a juried show in celebration of Marcel Duchamp’s readymades.

Cory Oberndorfer is a painter living and working in Washington, D.C. Focusing on confections and nostalgia, his work is designed to reach the broadest audience possible. Oberndorfer received his MFA from American University in Washington, D.C. and BFA from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. His work has been exhibited at Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana, CA, Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, Flashpoint Gallery and G Fine Art in Washington, D.C
