Founded in 1954, The Art League, Inc. is among the nation’s largest and oldest multi-service organizations for visual artists. As a major component of the cultural fabric of Alexandria, The Art League offers extensive exhibit opportunities for artists through its gallery, outstanding fine art education through the school, and valuable outreach programs to the local community. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely on support in the form of corporate gifts, grants, bequests, and individual contributions. Click here to make a donation.

The Art League Gallery
The Art League Gallery provides a gathering and exhibition space for the visual arts community of Alexandria and the greater Washington, DC region. The Gallery offers a camaraderie and fellowship to more that 1,000 artists of all media and skill levels. From professional to novice, anyone can become a member. Here, emerging artists can see their works featured in the gallery’s monthly shows, or work toward installing a Solo Artist exhibit. Each month brings a new exhibit and a new opportunity for artists to submit their works to be juried by noted fine art professionals from throughout the Washington area and beyond. Our engaging exhibition schedule makes our gallery an intriguing art space for gallery visitors in the DC metropolitan area. Click here to learn more about the Gallery.
The Art League School
The Art League School offers classes and workshops for all skill levels, in virtually all of the fine arts, to students of all ages. Anyone can take classes at The Art League School. Each year, nearly 7,000 students enroll, filling over 10,000 seats in classes. Novices find a welcoming and supportive environment while more experienced students are challenged to learn new techniques. Professional, highly qualified artist instructors, many from DC-area colleges and universities, teach all of our classes and workshops. Travel workshops are offered domestically and internationally to exciting locales with our talented faculty. And because all courses are noncredit, our focus is on personal artistic enrichment, rather than a degree. Click here to learn more about the School.

The Art League Outreach
Our award-winning “Space of Her Own” (SOHO) outreach program engages at-risk, low-income, 5th-grade girls in a year of personal growth centered on art. This collaboration with the Alexandria Court Service Unit pairs each participating girl with an adult, female mentor to partake in art lessons taught by an Art League instructor. These sessions become the catalyst to discuss larger life concerns – emotional issues such as decision-making, self-image, nutrition, and personal power. Click here to learn more about SOHO.
