The Art League is a non-profit organization in service
to the visual arts. Over the past four decades, the Art
League has provided services to artist and public alike
which instruct, enlighten, support and communicate both
between artists and their appreciators and artists among
themselves. Occupying about one-fifth of the Torpedo Factory
Art Center, the League operates a gallery, a fine-arts
school, and a supply store.
The gallery presents the only format (within a wide area)
which offers artists continual opportunity to enter juried
exhibits and to experience the lively competition and
exchange which inspires and challenges. Completely new
shows each month present all original work in a variety
of media and styles created by many excellent artists
of the Washington metro area and beyond. Judges from the
Washington artistic community select the shows from work
entered by many of the Leagues 1,100-plus members.

Art League School (703) 683-2323 |
The
school offers non-credit classes in every fine arts medium,
plus some high-skill crafts. Some 1,400-1,500 students are enrolled
in day and evening classes during each of the four semesters
offered each year. In addition, there are special workshops
with distinguished visiting teachers. Students, including all
ages from five-year-olds in Art through Discovery programs to
senior citizens pursuing excellence in the artistic disciplines,
benefit from the instruction of carefully-chosen teachers in
small informal classes. As a special service, The Art League
Supply Store (703) 548-8127 provides an on-site facility
making available all art supplies required by any teachers in
Art League classes. |
