The Torpedo Factory Art Center celebrates the second annual FotoWeek DC, a week-long celebration of photographic excellence in the greater Washington, DC area.

LECTURES:

The Fine Art of Collecting Photography”
Lecture by Kathleen Ewing

First Floor, Torpedo Factory Art Center
Kathleen Ewing, gallery owner and fine art dealer, presents “The Fine Art of Collecting Photography: How things have changed and what is in the future”, a lecture appealing to photographers and collectors alike. Ewing will discuss collecting photography in this exciting and rapidly changing environment. The lecture is presented in conjunction with Multiple Exposures Gallery's Juried Member Show, juried by Kathleen Ewing.

Kathleen Ewing has over 30 years of experience operating a fine art gallery and is currently working as a private dealer. Ewing is a former Executive Director of the Association of International Photographic Art Dealers. She continues to represent a core group of fine art photographers.

Reception: Come early and enjoy a reception from 6 to 7pm at Multiple Exposures Gallery, Studio 312, and peruse the fine art photography studios throughout the art center.

Photography Lecture by Chan Chao
The Art League Gallery

Just a few days following FotoWeek, Chan Chao will talk about his recent photographic work and show images. Chan Chao is a DC-based photographer. Chao has exhibited widely including shows at Numark Gallery, the Corcoran, Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York , and was featured in the 2002 Whitney biennial. He teaches at George Washington University and the Corcoran College of Art + Design.

Tag Team Portfolio Reviews
Throughout the Torpedo Factory Art Center
Have your photography reviewed by one or more Torpedo Factory Tag Teams - one photographer and one artist of another medium. This unique combination will offer you a deeper insight into your fine art photography. A map of participating artist studios and galleries will be available at the information desk. This event is presented by Multiple Exposures Gallery and the Torpedo Factory Artists' Association.

Second Thursday Art Night: Animal Instinct
Studios and Galleries Open 6 - 9pm

Browse open studios, interact with the artists, and enjoy refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

Visit Target Gallery from 6-8pm for the reception for Renee van der Stelt’s Projections: Line on Land, the 2009 Open Exhibition Winner. Hear a talk by the artist at 7pm. Inspired by the concepts of mapping and land use, Renee van der Stelt creates incredible sculptures of punctured paper and light.

From 6:30-8pm, The Art League Gallery hosts the reception for the Small Works show and Becoming Animal: Art of the Animal Kingdom.

Visit studio 322 from 6-9pm for the reception for the show Buy Art - Do Good. Ten percent of all sales from this show will be donated to ALIVE!, a local community organization helping those in need in Alexandria.

Live Music by The Reverie Jazz Trio

The Reverie Jazz Trio will perform early jazz standards and forgotten favorites in a style reminiscent of a bygone era. . Inspired by jazz and blues greats like Billy Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, this fantastic ensemble revives the marvelous melodies and emotions of pre-Bebop jazz.
