Several years ago I found myself drawn
to painting paths that lead the viewer into very quiet space
with a hint of mystery. On a path there is always the possibility
of discovery, and since the beginning of human and even mammalian
time, we have set off hopefully on them. One travels paths
in time, with life changing continuously along the way. But
in a painting, time can be caught, charged full of potential.
And if the painting is human scale, without other beings in
its frame of reality, the viewer is drawn to walk on to the
path and be a part of this timeless moment.
In addition to juried shows, group exhibitions
and seven one-artist shows, Marian Van Landingham has received
numerous awards for creating the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
She has represented Alexandria in the Virginia House of Delegates
since 1982.
