To me form is the essence, the
soul if you will, of any pot, and I try to create forms whose
characteristics make most, if not all, embellishment unnecessary.
Simplicity is my guiding principle. Often my pieces depend
solely on their personality and energy, their proportionality,
and the tactile quality of porcelain clay to provide interest.
Sometimes a form may seem more complete with the addition
of a simple embossed design, and perhaps a touch of color
given by soluble salts. And occasionally the intended function
of some pieces may call for a simple glaze.
To borrow from Alexander Pope, "there
is a certain majesty in simplicity
" a state I hope
for in each of the pots I create. Occasionally I satisfy that
aspiration.
