Craig Sterling is a fine-art photographer
residing in Washington, D.C. Craig works exclusively in black
and white using a wide range of mostly medium-format equipment.
Sterling integrates traditional photographic materials with
the latest technology in digital imaging.
Sterling's vision is conveyed through the portrayal of things
familiar in unfamiliar ways. Many people, after seeing his
work for the first time exclaim, "I've seen that before,
but never quite like that."
His images of Washington, D.C., Italy, Paris and the western
U.S. interpret the environment in the form of light, shape
and texture. His goal is to arouse the senses, challenge the
imagination and communicate a sense of place.
Craig attended Brooks Institute of Photography.
In addition, Sterling has taught at The
Art league in Alexandria, Virginia. Craig has also taught
at PhotoWorks in Glen Echo, Maryland and The Smithsonian in
Washington, D.C.
His images are held in numerous public, private and corporate
collections in the United States and abroad. Sterling's photographs
are included in the permanent collections of the Corcoran
Gallery of Art, National Gallery of Art, The Oakland Museum
of California and the Smithsonian Institution National Museum
of American History.
