Artist's Statement:
I work from how my senses react to what I enjoy doing or topics I am interested in. Often I start with a concept and develop and modify it according to my inspiration and where the canvas takes me. I use color to create tension and to move the eye through the painting. I enjoy working with patterns and shapes that work together to create interesting visual spaces. I also enjoy experimenting with paper collage and other materials and mediums in my paintings and prints. I tend to create what I call "fantastical" imagery.

Biography:
Pauline Siple has been an associate artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center since April 2006. Her home studio is in Bethesda, Maryland. Pauline received a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Ceramic Sculpture and a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She made her own ceramics and sold them at craft fairs until 1984, when she began working in Career Development at Universities. While Pauline worked full-time she took painting classes part-time. When she moved to Munich, Germany with her husband in 1999, she studied abstract painting with a recognized local artist and painting became a passion that she began to pursue full-time. She took painting workshops with artists in France, Italy, Hungary, and the Bahamas, and since she returned to the Washington DC area in 2002, she has studied painting at the Corcoran College of Art and the Alexandria Art League, and printmaking at Pyramid Atlantic and the Alexandria Art League. Pauline's work has been exhibited in a nationally televised international art show in New Delhi, and in a variety of juried and other shows in Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
