Alexia Scott, MFA

Alexia Scott was born in Newark, Ohio and began painting at an early age. She began her advanced studies in drawing and design at Kent State University and received her MFA in painting from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Throughout her career as a painter, she has explored many media as well as subject matter; however, she continually returned to landscape painting as a means of expression.

Alexia was a Lecturer of Fine Arts at Georgetown University from 1998- 2007. Recent painting awards include David Lloyd Kreeger - First Place Prize in Painting and "Best Of Virginia, Artist and Artisans 2005" publication. Her work is part of the permanent collections at the Smithsonian Intuition's Naturalist Center in Leesburg and the National Zoological Park, Washington, DC. Solo Exhibitions include Riverview Gallery, Portsmouth, VA and National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. 2006 Faculty Show Georgetown, University.

This newest series of work was created both on location and in the studio. Once away from the location, the memory of the event and her knowledge of visual expression dominate the work. The artist relates that "the work now becomes what I want to say-not a copy of what I saw." Influenced by the philosophy of ink painting; mentally forming the work then spontaneously constructing the work allows for the greatest enthusiasm and spirit visible in the painting.
