The works of J. Luray Schaffner have always
shown a strong knowledge of design and construction, but her
real strength lies in her eagerness and ability to experiment
with mixed media, composition, color and complexity.
Her paintings excite the senses. They
sing with vibrancy and motion. They are neither stagnant decorations,
nor are they frenetic and totally unplanned. There is a sense
of immediacy and spontaneity about them but a great deal of
time and thought has been spend in developing each of them.
The artists background and education
in advertising design is evident in her work. She has been
a consistent winner of awards in juried competitions across
the country for several years and her paintings may be found
in numerous private and corporate collections. She is a "Signature
Member" of the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor
Society of Alabama, Kansas Watercolor Society. As a member
of many prominent art organizations over the years, J. Luray
has played an active role in their existence. Her work appears
in several recent books on watercolor painting an abstraction.
