I have been making pottery for over 20 years.    More recently, I began designing and creating mosaics, from small decorative pieces to large installations.

In my ceramics, I use a traditional Italian “maiolica” technique, which showcases my love for color and fanciful design.  Wheel-thrown or hand-formed pieces are made from red earthenware clay, then fired and covered in a white tin-based glaze.  Bold designs of fruits, flowers and birds are painted with colored stains on top of this white base, and melt into the glaze when fired a second time, creating a lovely, softened effect.

My recent mosaic work brings together bright bits of stained glass, beads, jewelry and found objects to create intricate, elegant designs.  As in my ceramics, I try to give a new twist to time-honored techniques to create beautiful and useful objects for everyday enjoyment.

My work has been juried into numerous shows and sold in stores and galleries across the country.  I received a degree in English Literature from Bryn Mawr College,  then studied at The Corcoran College of Art and Design, and several of the country's top crafts centers, including Haystack, Anderson Ranch, Penland and Arrowmont.  I teach classes for adults and children at various local schools and art centers.
