Lorraine Oerth was born in Philadelphia, graduated from Philadelphia College of Art in Ceramics with a minor in painting, and has lived in Alexandria since the mid 1980’s.
She is currently an instructor in Ceramics at The Art League. She owned a commercial Craft and Art Gallery, Oerth Gallery, for 3 years, and since closing her store, she began a wholesale business for her unique line of ceramics and prints, and already has more than 70 national accounts.
A fearless experimenter, Oerth has perfected ways of transferring prints of her artwork and firing these images onto her ceramics where they are permanently imbedded in the glaze. Using processes including over-glaze enamels, screen printing and computer technology, she explains, “I am endlessly fascinated by being able to transfer images from my paintings, prints and collages onto the surface of my ceramics. For me, it feels like I’m completing a circle”.
Her wholesale enterprise now occupying most of her time, Oerth’s other love is creating one of a kind ceramic tile murals for residential and commercial clients. This past year she completed 2 major projects for customers in Alexandria, a kitchen wall backsplash and a fireplace surround.
Prices range from 18.00 - $200 for her ceramics and custom tile averages $125 - $250 per square foot. |
