My monotypes
are an intuitive, spontaneous expression of my impressions.
The starting point often comes from travel. I use oil base
ink and paint on acrylic or zinc plates with brushes, cardboard,
fingers and solvent, to achieve different effects. I let "
things happen " that suggest new directions to follow.
Putting the plate through the press further changes the image.
I hope the resulting piece conveys an atmosphere, mood, or
energy to which the viewer will react, based on his or her
own experiences and interpretations.
My etchings, on the other hand, are the
epitome of control and planning. I draw out every detail of
the print before incising it onto a zinc plate. I use various
techniques to "bite" different levels into the plate
to create the depth and effects I desire.
As a printmaker for more than 25 years
I work in Etchings, Monoprints, and Monotypes. My work has
been seen in regional, national, and international shows as
well as being found in private and public collections including
the Smithsonian Institution - National Museum of American
History, Graphics Arts Collections.
