Ann McDowell has been a painter
and photographer at the Torpedo Factory Art Center since l985,
beginning as a founding member of Factory Photoworks Gallery
(now Multiple Exposures). Since l993 she has been working
and showing in Studio #17. She studied painting at VCU, The
Virginia Museum, The Art League, Springmaid Beach Workshops
and privately. She attended Bennington College. Her Fine Art
Photography training was at the NOVA Alexandria campus, and
the International Center for Photography, NYC, working especially
in cyanotype and hand-colored infrared photography. "Whatever
the medium, I'm drawn to the endless possibilities of materials,
style, color and texture. Most recently I have been incorporating
papers and found objects into my paintings."
McDowell has had four solo shows. Her
painting and photography have appeared regularly in juried
exhibitions -- gleaning many awards -- at The Art League,
The Twentieth Century Gallery in Williamsburg, the Peninsula
Gallery and group juried exhibits in several Washington, D.C.
galleries. Her work appears in numerous corporate and private
collections here and abroad.
