Marcel is known for her bold, yet
sensitive, use of color and design. Her images in all media
reflect her love of nature and of the mysterious beauty underwater.
Marcel's use of transparent layers of oil color stem from
her early training in the old masters technique. Her glowing
and very personal sense of color is at once intense and delicate.
Her well-developed sense of design is organic and sensuous
in form.
Born and raised in Seattle, she started
her art training on Saturdays, at age 11, at Cornish School
of Allied Arts (WA). During high school she split her time
with Cornish, where she studied weekdays from 12-5. Thereafter
she attended Coronado School of Fine Arts (CA) and another
year full time at Cornish before using her Hallmark scholarship
to attend Art Students League full time for one year (NYC).
In Seattle she was tutored by William Parker, painter. She
traveled overseas extensively before settling in the Washington
DC area, in 1972. She has maintained a studio at the Torpedo
Factory since 1976.
She shares her home and garden with her
dog, Megan, her turtle Mr. Morgan, her fish Charles and whomever
can be enticed into her garden sanctuary.
