Caroline Emmet Heald paints rural
and urban scenes in oil, using transparent layers of brilliant
color. She is currently producing a collection of 100 paintings
of northern India, many of which incorporate collage materials,
gold leaf, and oil pastel. She also paints Washington DC area
landscapes, low country South Carolina, Minnesota, Maine,
and Argentina.
"Heald is a talented painter who
skillfully avoids the trap of trying to create the illusion
of perfect realism and instead uses the ability of color to
deliver representational ideas to bring forth her landscapes.
Yes, they are paintings of wetlands, but a closer inspection
reveals the tenacity of a good painter who is also interested
in exploring vigorous brushwork and the interactions of colors."
- Review by F. Lennox Campello, Washington, DC Art News
(January 21, 2004) and Old Town Crier (February, 2004)
of Caroline's solo show Wetlands in the Art League
Gallery, Alexandria, VA .
In addition to her studio at the Torpedo
Factory, Caroline Heald is represented by the George Billis
Gallery in New York.
