Betty Grisham
was born and raised in small towns in Missouri but has lived
a majority of her adult life in northern Virginia. She graduated
with a B.S. in Art Education from Missouri State University.
Her work primarily
consists of realistic oil paintings on canvas. She also sometimes
works with pastel, colored pencil, and gouache on paper. She
enjoys a variety of subject matter - still life, landscapes,
pet portraits, and the human figure, especially portraits
of infants and children. In her representational work, she
often depicts intricate detail, pattern, transparencies, and
reflections. Recently she has been working on larger canvases,
borrowing elements of glassware reflected on metal to create
fluid, lyrical, abstractions.
Betty illustrated a book for children,
BLUE LEWIS AND SASHA THE GREAT written by her friend Carol
Donsky Newell. It contains twenty-one illustrations rendered
in gouache and colored pencil. The book and a few of the originals
are still available for purchase in her studio. The book is
also for sale on Amazon.com.
Betty considers commissions of all types
of subject matter. She is known locally for her many pet portraits.
Her prices range from around $450.00 to $5000. Most of her
larger pieces are $1200 to $2100. See her page on the Commissions
site for more information.
