Although I was born and raised in small towns in Missouri, I have lived most of my adult life in northern Virginia. I graduated with a B.S. in Art Education from Missouri State University and studied painting at The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia.
My work primarily consists of realistic oil paintings on canvas but I also work with pastels, colored pencil, graphite and gouache on paper. I depict a variety of subject matter — still life, landscape, pets, portraits and figures. In my representational work, I often use intricate detail, pattern, transparencies, and reflections. I like to borrow those same elements of glassware and metal to create fluid, lyrical, abstractions.
My prices range from $200.00 to $2,500.00. Larger triptych and diptychs are higher. I consider commissions of all types of subject matter. See my work on the Commissions Page on this website for more information and check out my personal website www.bettygrishamstudio.com.
I illustrated a book for children, BLUE LEWIS AND SASHA THE GREAT. The author is my friend Carol Donsky Newell. It contains twenty-one illustrations rendered in gouache and colored pencil. The book and a few of the originals are available for purchase in my studio.
My days and hours in the studio vary so please call for an appointment if you wish to visit to discuss a possible commission.
