I was born and
raised in small towns in Missouri but have lived most of my
adult life in northern Virginia. I graduated with a B.S. in
Art Education from Missouri State University and studied painting
at The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia.
My work primarily consists of realistic oil paintings on canvas.
I also sometimes work with pastels, colored pencil, and gouache
on paper. I enjoy a variety of subject matter - still life,
landscapes, pet portraits, and people. In my representational
work, I often depict intricate detail, pattern, transparencies,
and reflections. I like to borrow elements of glassware and
metal to create fluid, lyrical, abstractions.
I illustrated a book for children, BLUE
LEWIS AND SASHA THE GREAT authored by my friend Carol Donsky
Newell. It contains twenty-one illustrations rendered in gouache
and colored pencil. The book and a few of the originals are
still available for purchase in my studio.
My prices begin at $100.00. Medium-sized
works are $350 to $650. My larger pieces are $1,100 to $2,500.
I am participating in the TFAC 35th Anniversary Coupon program.
(See information on this website.)
I consider commissions of all types
of subject matter. See my work on the Commissions
page on this website for more information and check out my
personal website www.bettygrishamstudio.com.
