I was born and
raised in small towns in Missouri but have lived most of my
adult life in northern Virginia. I graduated with a B.S. in
Art Education from Missouri State University and studied painting
at The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia.
My work primarily consists of realistic oil paintings on canvas.
I also sometimes work with pastels, colored pencil, and gouache
on paper. I enjoy a variety of subject matter - still life,
landscape, pets, and figures. In my representational work,
I often depict intricate detail, pattern, transparencies,
and reflections. I like to borrow elements of glassware and
metal to create fluid, lyrical, abstractions.
I illustrated a book for children, BLUE
LEWIS AND SASHA THE GREAT authored by my friend Carol Donsky
Newell. It contains twenty-one illustrations rendered in gouache
and colored pencil. The book and a few of the originals are
still available for purchase in my studio.
My prices begin as low as $75.00. Small
to medium-sized paintings are $350 to $650. Larger pieces
are $850.00 to $2,500. Triptych and diptychs larger than 48"
are higher. I consider commissions of all types of subject
matter. See my work on the Commissions
page on this website for more information and check out my
personal website www.bettygrishamstudio.com.
My days and hours in the studio vary so
please call for an appointment if you would like to visit
me to discuss a possible commission and look at your reference
photos.
