My work is highly personal. But, the concerns,
issues, experiences that I explore, confront,
present in my paintings and monotypes and etchings, are not
uniquethey seem to be universal.
The uniqueness comes in my depiction of them. For me, making
art is the process of creating a
work that is meaningful to me, with the hope that I will touch
something meaningful, personal....
in the viewer(s). If this happens, then what I saw, drew,
painted, presented or intended is not
important.
I have made art since I was
10 years old when, thanks to my mothers vision, began
taking
classes in figure drawing and painting at the Art Students
League in NYC. I studied with
some well-known and respected artists, e.g. Raphael Soyer,
Bernard Klonis, and with Dagmar
Freuchen, chief Fashion Illustrator at Vogue magazine. When
I left for college, my creative
and artistic endeavors were channeled elsewhere.
I returned to painting, drawing, printmaking
about 8 years ago and am now making art full
time. I am fortunate to have been juried into many shows at
the Art League and other galleries
in the metro DC area, and to have attracted some collectors
across the country and in Europe.
Currently, I am focusing on a series of paintings and mixed
media pieces related to the songs and
poetry of Leonard Cohen as they have related to my life.
