Pat Gerkin’s abstract paintings and mixed media have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows throughout the Washington, D.C. area and New England, including at Red Door Gallery, Richmond, VA; Pierce School on Capitol Hill, Hyatt Regency, Glenview Mansion Gallery, Studio Gallery, District West Fine Arts, Washington Theological Union, Capital One, Cox Communications, eklektikos Gallery, Touchstone Gallery, and The Art League. Ms. Gerkin received her B.A. from Fairmont State College, and she has studied art independently and through the Corcoran School of Art, Arlington Arts Center, NOVA, and The Art League. She is an Associate Member of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, a Copley Artist of the Copley Society of Art in Boston, MA, and a member of New England Wax (N.E.W., a group of artists working in encaustics),and a member of the Women’s Caucus for Art/NH.
Ms. Gerkin’s works explore both the exterior and the interior landscape. She is interested in surface tension and the place between 2-D and 3-D, and she works primarily on canvas and/or wood. Many of her works make use of salvage metal, tiles, roofing, and other discarded materials. Her most recent works investigate the themes of journey and transition and use the New England sea and its various moods as metaphor. Ms. Gerkin was awarded a painting fellowship for a month-long residency at Vermont Studio Center in April 2001.
