My recurring
themes are water and portraits. I photograph the surface of
water in color and black and white. My eye follows the movement
of water. I click to stop the action of the water. Recently
I am placing a plastic underwater HERO film camera just under
the surface of the water, calling to my husband in the back
of the canoe "I'm going to be clicking" meaning,
balance the canoe while I lean over the side.
IN HER PLACE and SMALL TOWN
in the BIG CITY are two books I published. For IN HER
PLACE I asked 56 women "What do you do regularly
to nurture yourself?" She wrote a paragraph about 'her
place' and I photographed her in it. The book includes her
words and my photos. SMALL TOWN in the BIG CITY is
about my local business community in Chevy Chase, Washington,
DC, at the beginning of the 21st century. I asked each owner/manager
'Why did you locate your business in this location?"
The book includes the answer to 'why' and a photograph of
the employees, and where each was born. The co-author, Joanne
Zich, wrote a history of each address, which appears as a
sidebar.
My photography is the now historic process
of film and wet darkroom: Silver gelatin prints for b/w and
Ilfochrome prints for color, from slides. All prints are archival
and signed. Photographs are from 9"x6" to 6'; price
range is $215.00 - $1000.00.
In June Karen Keating and I are having
an exhibition at Multiple Exposures Gallery.
