OSCILLATING BETWEEN THE FIGURATIVE AND THE UNKNOWN
Instead of literally painting figures, lately I’ve been creating “characters” from my imagination. My creative process is very much like the fictional writer who continues to develop the personalities of his/her characters as the plot thickens. Once I detect distinct traits in these figures, they soon become the driving force of the paintings’ meaning and the work in progress oscillates between the figurative and the unknown. I get caught up in their energy while I am both captivated and amused by them. But in the end much is left to one’s imagination, wondering who these people are and why they came to be. |
