I consider myself a contemporary
American folk artist. What I do as a folk artist is I use
what I call "reckless mediums"; I love to paint
on glass. I also incorporate many found objects in my frames:
things I pick up off the ground, out of the garbage, or in
antique stores. Then through my own techniques I gain depth
and perspective using both surfaces of the glass: layering
and scratching through on the back, and building layers and
texture on the front. Finally, through my hours of drawing
specimens as a biology student, I taught myself to draw and
paint images. It is actually these three things: reckless
mediums, nontraditional techniques, and being self taught
that make me a folk artist.
My work includes painting on anything that can be painted
on: "glass canvases", furniture, dishware, etc
The prices for my work start at about $100.00 and go as high
as $3000.00
