BIO
Marie L. Collier hails from the coalfields of southern West
Virginia. She spent her youth seeing the world through a veil
of dust from unpaved roads, soot from smoke-choked chimneys,
and layers of fine coat dust. Breaking from this gray mode,
she was compelled to paint with new eyes. Today, her paintings
are often bold, intense, and pristine in color. The greatest
joy for her in painting is the manipulation of color. She
wants her audience to see the world neither as purely as nature
presents it, nor in the drabness in which man has built it,
but through her own pathways of color.
SUBJECT MATTER, MEDIA, SIZES & PRICING
Collier is a seasoned artist of more than
35 years' experience. Primarily, she paints abstracts and
landscapes but is also competent with still life and figure.
Smaller landscapes are often painted in pastel, while oversized
paintings, such as 30x40, may be painted in oils on canvas,
or in acrylics on canvas or paper. Pastel is sometimes added
to acrylic abstracts. Prices depend on size and complexity
and range from a few hundred dollars to $2,500.
STUDIO & SALES REPRESENTATION
Although her studio is located in
Blacksburg, VA, the sphere for her art extends beyond the
local area. She is represented by the E.C. May Company in
the Alexandria, VA, and Miller Off-Main-Street Galleries in
Blacksburg, among venues in other states and localities. Her
work may be found in both private and corporate collections
throughout the United States and Europe.
