I do my porcelain and Raku work in Studio
12 in the Torpedo Factory Art Center and in my home studio
in Bethesda, Maryland. Wheel thrown vases, bowls and slab-formed
tiles are decorated with relief carvings of animals in motion.
Some of these high-fired pieces are covered with a clear glaze;
on others, glaze is not used on the carved parts. Many of
the carved vases and tiles are fired once, and then smoke-fired
so the clay will absorb carbon from the smoke to make patterns
that enhance the carvings. Raku-fired vases and tiles are
incised with animal designs, glazed with bright colors and
washed with silver nitrate. Carved porcelain animal pins and
pendants are also part of my work. I have a degree in Advertising
Design and I have worked with clay for over 35 years.
