I am originally from Prague, Czechoslovakia
(now Czech Republic). After the collapse of Communism, I accepted
a job as a translator/interpreter in Orlando and moved to
Florida. I have since established myself in Washington, DC.
I began experimenting seriously with photography in the late
1990s. My work blossomed after I built a digital darkroom
in my home and devoted hours to becoming proficient in digital
techniques. I feel that there is logical continuation of my
former work as a linguist-interpreter. In the past I was interpreting
a foreign language and I worked with words; now I am interpreting
a visual language and I work with pictures.
As a former European, I am fascinated
by the older and dilapidated parts of American cities and
their dreamlike atmosphere. In my photography, I try to capture
scenes that have a life of their own and show that they are
beautifully absurd and unintentional byproducts of human aspirations,
with time adding the finishing touches.
Recently, I have been experimenting with
a toy Holga lens. These photographs - with their technical
imperfections and soft focus - have a dreamy feel that could
not be achieved using a standard professional lens.
All photographs are printed in limited
editions with pigmented inks. The prices range from $290 to
$690 depending on the size and number in edition.
